What is Sparked?

  • Sparked (formerly known as Sealed for Success) was launched in 2020. Run by volunteers, it aims to empower youths to develop their personal skills and gain industry knowledge through experienced mentors. Sparked has two programmes: Mentorship and Microlearning.

 

Who should join Sparked?

  • Our mentors are industry experts and experienced individuals who are willing to invest time and effort in a mentee

  • Our mentees are energetic youths/individuals looking to develop personal skills and network with industry veterans.

 

Why should I join Sparked?

  • For mentors, Sparked is a great way for mentors to give back to society and provide guidance to the mentees.

  • For mentees, Sparked is a great way for mentees to network and gain insights from industry professionals.

Will I get paid/have to pay for the mentorship programme?

  • Our mentorship programme is fully voluntary and there are no fees involved.

Need To Know

​

Who is eligible to be a mentor?

  • We welcome professionals from all ages and backgrounds who want to empower and guide youths to sign up as mentors.

​

What are expected of mentors?

  • Mentors voluntarily offer advice, share experiences, and provide guidance to the mentee's career development. Mentors who have indicated their availability to participate in a particular wave should also allocate reasonable time to their assigned mentee.

What is the commitment like for a mentor?

  • The mentorship programme happens in waves. Each wave spans 6 months. There are 2 waves in a year: January to June, and July to December.

If I indicated my availability to participate in a wave, will I definitely be assigned a mentee?

  • Depending on the number of mentees participating and their industry interests, it is possible that you may not be assigned a mentee. Our team will inform you accordingly once the matching has been carried out.

What if I can’t commit to the entire duration of the programme wave?

  • Please indicate your availability appropriately in the sign up form, and in the mentor availability form which will be sent out to you before each wave. To make this programme a successful and impactful one, we hope that mentors and mentees alike will commit to it.

​

Do I need to reapply for each wave?

  • Mentors only need to sign up once. Thereafter, the team will reach out to you to confirm your availability before each wave. 

​

Due to the varied nature of mentorships, how will I be matched with a mentee?

  • Sparked will match mentors and mentees to the best of our abilities based on the profile of the mentors and mentees.​

​

How often do the mentors and mentees meet?

  • While we do not stipulate a fixed number of mentoring sessions, mentors and mentees are expected to minimally engage with each other at least 3 hours over 6 months. You are free to continue the mentor-mentee relationship with a mentee beyond the duration of the programme.

Where is the best setting/location to meet with a mentee?

  • The mentoring session may be conducted online or offline (face to face). It is suggested to meet at a public space

Mentee FAQ

Need To Know

​

​Who is eligible to be a mentee?

  • Youths ranging from post-secondary up till fresh graduates up to 3 years working experience are welcomed to apply. Importantly, mentees should have the willingness to learn, and the drive to thrive in the workplace. 

​

What are expected of mentees?

  • Mentees should be proactive to approach their assigned mentors to learn from them. Mentees who have indicated their availability to participate in a particular wave should also allocate reasonable time to their assigned mentor.

By submitting the application form, does it mean that I am guaranteed a place as a mentee?

  • After submitting your application, our team will review your profile to find a suitable mentor based on your mentee sign up form. If selected, we will contact to inform you of your match.

 

How many mentors will I be matched with?

  • You will be matched with one mentor.

​

What is the commitment like for a mentee?

  • The minimum commitment is 3 hours over 6 months. Any further commitment is up to you and your mentor’s discussion.

​

When will the mentee registration be open? 

  • Registration will open 2 months before the start of the wave from May to June, and November to December each year.

​

What if I can’t commit for the entire duration of the programme?

  • Please sign up only if you are able to commit for the entire duration of the programme. If not, you are welcome to apply for future waves of mentorships after this wave closes. To make this programme a successful and impactful one, we hope that mentors and mentees alike will commit to it.

How is the matching conducted?

  • Matching will be done based on your mentee sign up form.

​

Can I join as a mentee again if I have previously participated in the programme, but would like to join again to gain more knowledge and expertise in another field/industry, or from a different mentor? 

  • Yes, you may.

​

Is there a membership fee to join Sparked?

  • The mentorship programme is free. You do not need to pay anything.
